Arafat made his debut for Dhaka Division in the 2001–02 season. He currently plays first-class cricket for Dhaka Metropoliton. He also played T20 cricket for the Chittagong Kings. First he got the opportunity to play in T20I match in 2014. He played his first T20I match against Sri-Lanka. He scored 4/29 and 4/27 against Zimbabwe in consecutive ODI series in 2014. In 2016, he was selected in Bangladesh squad for the 2016 ICC World T20.
T20 match
Arafat Sunny was also one of the most sought after players in the first edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). In 2015, he played with Rangpur Raiders and took 15 wickets. Now, he plays for Chittagong Kings. He played an important role for his club to win the tournament. He took 41 wickets and played 15 T20 matches.
Banned from Cricket
Elbow bend of more than 15 degrees is considered illegal action for bowlers. At the World Cup qualifying match against Netherlands, spinner Arafat Sunny, while bowling, bent his elbow more than 15 degrees. The umpire suspected his bowling action which was followed by a test of ICC. On March 12 Arafat attended the test at the Chennai Ramachandra Education Centre. ICC report revealed error in his bowling action and banned him from all International cricket. ICC also said that he cannot play any international match and also he cannot play any domestic cricket in any country that are members of ICC. However, he can play in Bangladesh Domestic cricket with the permission of BCB.
History of his Starting Cricket
Arafat Sunny’s mother wanted him to become a media person but she was not successful. Then one of her relatives suggested her about enrolling Arafat in cricket for it could be a good career for him. Arafat Sunny enrolled in Dhanmondi Cricket club.
His journey was not an easy one. Her mother faced a lot of hardship. Arafat lived in Ameen Bazar. Everyday, he came with his mother to Dhanmondi Cricket Club. His mother stayed with him the full day watching Arafat practice. She also accompanied Arrafat Sunny when he went to play outside Dhaka.
He played his first international match against Sri-lanka. Before get chance in international cricket he played 13-14 years in Domestic cricket. A long time later he get the chance for playing in Bangladesh national cricket team.
Personal Life:
Arafat Sunny was born in September 29 1986. He grew up at Amin Bazar, Dhaka city. His favorite food is meat and rice. He likes any food prepared by his mother. His loves T-shirts and jeans pants. He also loves Bangladesh National team jersey. His favorite color is black. His loves his parents very much and spends his free time with his family. He also loves to sleep whenever he gets any chance. He love watching movies, listening to songs and traveling. His favorite tourist destination is Cox’s bazar.
